Battery Backup Power

For many years, your copper network-based landline phone would continue to work even during power outages. However, today’s advanced home phone services, including BARC Connects’ service, runs off of the fiber network and requires power to continue functioning during an outage.

If you do not have an emergency generator, in order to avoid disruption of telephone service during an outage – and to maintain the ability to connect to 911 emergency services – BARC Connects offers the option of purchasing or leasing a backup battery unit for your telephone service.

What Your Backup Unit Can and Can’t Do

Our backup battery unit for telephone service allows you to continue to use telephone service during a power outage. Without a backup battery unit or alternate backup power source (such as a generator), you will not be able to make any calls, including emergency calls to 911. The only way to maintain the ability to use your phone is by using some form of backup power.

Our backup battery unit does not provide power to any services other than voice. Home security systems, medical monitoring devices and other equipment will not run on our backup battery unit.

Purchase or Lease Options

At the time of your installation, our technician will offer you the option to purchase or lease a backup battery. If you choose to purchase it, you will own the device and be responsible for maintenance and replacement.  If you choose to lease it, BARC Connects will monitor the battery’s life and replace it at no additional cost at the appropriate time, provided you continue to lease the backup battery.  You also have the option of declining a battery backup.
